Кстати, я посчитал - чтобы привести хетзнеровский сервер в нормальный вид, надо примерно 120 долларов в месяц платить за 5000. Это корпус плюс рейд и ещё что-то (KVM кажется) - не так уж и мало, хотя анлим....

Ну, по факту - просто установку будете мониторить так, как будто перед монитором сидите с помощью специальной программки типа radmin - но функций KVM из серии полазить в БИОСе, там нет.

Installation via QEMU
QEmu is a PC-Emulator. At least with Hetzner, I can install it to the rescue system's ramdisk, download a FreeBSD Installation CD to virtually boot from, and do the system installation from there.
This is the way I am going to describe in detail here today. There is one little problem: To get access to QEmu's virtual console, you either need access to the host system's console, or use VNC. But Debian 3.1, the version used for the rescue system, does not come with a QEmu that supports VNC. So we are going to manually install the more recent version from the QEmu homepage at http://fabrice.bellard.free.fr/qemu/ .
0. Boot into the rescue system and log in via SSH as root
1. Install the debian version of QEmu to satisfy dependencies
This is not bulletproof, but works for the versions we are going to use here.
# aptitude update
# aptitude install qemu
2. Download the binary distribution of QEmu from its homepage
We are also going to download the source tree since the package with the current version of QEmu lacks some required files.

3. Download the "Mini Install" CD-Image for FreeBSD.
The mini-image is ok since we can download everything else we need directly from the FreeBSD ftp servers. As described later in this article, the installation itself can take place unattended if the downloads should take longer than a few minutes. But here, we want to get as quickly as possible to a bootable installation.
# wget 'ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/releases/i386/ISO-IMAGES/6.2/6.2-BETA2-i386-bootonly.iso'
In case the 6.2 Beta2 CD isn't available anymore, you need to browse the ISO images folders with a ftp client to find a different one.
4. Install the rescue image
First we are going to install our own rescue image. We are also going to use this image to download the most recent source tree and use these files for the real installation. Add a IPTables rule to restrict VNC access to our local machine only. This is optional, but highly recommended for security.
(( Note: I need to look up the iptables syntax again, too bad I didn't write it down :( ))
Extract the QEMU 0.8.2 binaries:
# tar xzf /root/qemu-0.8.2-i386.tar.gz -C /
Extract the source code for getting the missing files:
# tar xzf /root/qemu-0.8.2.tar.gz -C /root/
Move the missing files to the location QEmu expects them at:
# mv /root/qemu-0.8.2/keymaps /usr/local/share/qemu/
Start QEmu:
# /usr/local/bin/qemu -vnc -hda /dev/hda -cdrom /root/6.2-BETA2-i386-bootonly.iso -boot d
5. Make a standard installation of FreeBSD a basic configuration
I am not going into details of the installation itself because if you aren't familiar with this process, you really should not start learning it on a remote consoleless system.
- Create a partition of 8GB. We are going to need a lot of space for building the base system from the sources. Most likely not 8GB, but do it anyways just to make sure we won't run out of space in a later upgrade.
- Choose "standard MBR" for the Master Boot Record
- activate the partition (!)
After installation:
- enable root login via SSH
- disable syslogd's default behaviour of listening on the network (optional security measure)

Now we have got a bootable FreeBSD system on the remote server This will be our "rescue" sytem. After installation, let sysinstall reboot the machine. QEmu will quit, and in your SSH session, you'll find yourself back in the ISP's rescue system.
Reboot the server physically. With my ISP, Hetzner, I don't need to change any settings. The server will boot directly from the hard disk after you quit the rescue system.

брал консоль у этого хостера и прекрасно заходил в биос, менял порядок загрузочных винтов.

единственное неудобство сразу было, так настроить раскладку клавиатуры под себя, т.е. некоторые
символы не совпадали, но путем "научного тыка" разобрался.
