Ahrefs will be launching a new pricing structure soon. Before that happens, we wanted to give you a heads up and let you know what to expect.

We haven't changed our pricing structure for many years. But as our customer base grows, we’re really starting to feel that our current pricing model is restricting us from properly serving our broad range of users.

Right now, a small business owner who only uses Ahrefs for research a couple of times a week is on the same plan as professional marketers and large agencies, where multiple people and teams use Ahrefs on a daily basis and many of their services are reliant on Ahrefs data.

This is not what value-based pricing should look like. So we took some time to think about restructuring our pricing plans in a way that reflects the amount of value each user is getting out of the platform.

Today, we're excited to finally be able to share a few details.

Some important things that will change:

1. No more weekly reports limit per tool. This will be replaced with a global monthly limit. In addition, report limits will be per user instead of per workspace. With this, you'll be able to use your data allowance on the tools you actually need.

2. Free inactive user seats. Right now, you have the option to purchase additional user seats. But feedback is that it's very difficult to predict how often a teammate will need to use Ahrefs. With this, you’ll be able to add your entire team for free, and we’ll only charge you for users that were actively using Ahrefs that month.

3. Pre-pay + overusage charges for additional data. With this, you'll have a lot more flexibility with your data allowance. First, pre-purchase any additional data that you know you'll need. And if you underestimated your usage or if a project suddenly crops up, you can still get additional data beyond your allowance – we’ll automatically charge for that overusage, albeit at a slightly higher price.

4. No more “$7 for 7 days trial”. We're looking to shift to a trial-on-demand system instead.

And to answer the questions you’re thinking:

Will Ahrefs be more expensive?

If you use Ahrefs infrequently, you’re unlikely to be affected by this change. But for professional SEOs, marketing teams and agencies that use Ahrefs extensively and on a daily basis: the answer is “yes”.

We want to create pricing that is equally fair for all of our customers, and we think that it’s reasonable that heavy, experienced users pay more than non-professional SEOs who are just trying to figure things out.

Why do you need to raise prices?

We haven't made any changes to our pricing in many years, while a lot has changed at Ahrefs – both as a product and as a company.

We've been continuously improving our existing tools and data, plus developing impactful new features to help you achieve your marketing goals. Just last year, we set up our own datacenter in Singapore at a cost close to $50M. We’re also always making sizable investments in Ahrefs' infrastructure and data partnerships to ensure that you get the highest quality data from us.

In short, we think it’s time that the price of our services should increase for heavy users of our platform. This will allow us to continue making improvements at the same pace.

When will the new pricing be live?

We're looking to launch this new pricing structure sometime in the first trimester.

Who will it apply to?

For now, it will only apply to new users. We do plan on moving everyone to the new pricing plan, but we don't have a concrete timeline yet.

Of course, we'll be sending another email with full details when the pricing goes live, so look out for that.
