Torrent review

Torrent is a service for sharing information between people on the Internet. Torrent is mostly known as a special peering (P2P) networking protocol, which was designed and implemented by the American programmer Bram Cohen.

The idea was that the transferred file is not loaded on the server, and directly transmitted from user to user.

Torrent features are performed through a special networking servers, they are called - "Trackers", well, or «BitTorrent Trackers". There are thousands of variety on the internet, some popular, some less known. Trackers serve as habitat for Torrent users, so that people can find each other.

Also, the tracker keeps lists of files that can be downloaded, a description of these files, well and usernames who can provide the required files. Download statistic is available as well, most popular downloads, etc., which, admittedly, makes it easy to work with large amounts of data.

Popular programs to work on the torrent-network

So, before working with the torrent tracker you need a special program. With it you can create a torrent file to distribute and run their own to download.

There are a lot of, at least more than three dozen. The most popular of them:

• BitComet (http://www.bitcomet.com), the most popular client with a convenient and user-friendly interface;

• μTorrent (http://www.utorrent.com), in general, this torrent client is not inferior to the previous, also very well known and widespread.

Cross-platform torrent clients:

* Aria2 - supports HTTP, FTP, BitTorrent; files Metalink 3.0

* Azureus - written in Java, so is cross-platform;

* BitTornado - cross-platform client written in Python;

* Opera browser fully supports downloading torrents, starting with version 9.0;

* TorrentFlux - written in PHP, running on a remote Web-server as the PHP-script that allows not to keep your computer turned on continuously, but pump and distribute torrents.

* FlashGet;

* GetRight.

* Shareaza - supports multiple file-sharing networks, including BitTorrent

For Mac OS:

For «UNIX-like» systems:

* BTPD - console client for Unix / GNU + Linux, written in C + +; running in daemon mode;

* CTorrent - console client for Unix / GNU + Linux, has stopped development in 2004;

* KTorrent - uses a library called Qt; runs on KDE;

* RTorrent - console client for UNIX / GNU + Linux, written in C + +; uses the ncurses and libTorrent library;

* Transmission - Client for Mac OS X, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, NetBSD, GNU / Linux and BeOS, using GTK.

The advantages of working with Torrent

Let’s sum up all the pluses, which torrent gives to us:
