Похоже, что явление Supplemental Result приобрело настолько массовый характер, что Google забеспокоился сам и решил уверить общественность, что ничего страшного не происходит.

Это самый обычный результат поиска, утверждает самый крупный поисковик в мире, но все вебмастера давно знают, что стоит любому сайту попасть в Supplemental Result, и о трафике из Гугла можно на долгое время забыть. Размещайте на своих сайтах уникальный контент - и будет вам счастье, - такова официальная позиция Google.На практике оказалось, что все не так просто. Представитель Google Адам Ласник, комментируя возможные причины попадания в Supplemental Results, высказал весьма интересную мысль: оказывается, туда могут отправится и совершенно оригинальные страницы, но не имеющие достаточный PageRank, чтобы быть в основном индексе.Гениально, черт возьми! Чтобы сайт не выпадал из основной выдачи, Google рекомендует на каждую(!) страницу ставить по несколько внешних ссылок с высоким PageRank’ом, причем ключевую роль играет не их количество, а качество.

What’s really Supplemental Results in Google? The company says, a supplemental result is just like a regular web result, except that it’s pulled from supplemental index.

Google is able to place fewer restraints on sites that its crawl for this supplemental index than on sites that are crawled for the main index. For example, the number of parameters in a URL might exclude a site from being crawled for inclusion in the main index; however, it could still be crawled and added to supplemental index.

Supplemental Result example

Google said that the supplemental index is not a bad thing, but in practise everyone knows it’s the sign of site’s death from the Google.

“Pages are in the supplemental results because we still wanted to be able to show them to users, but the pages didn’t have enough PageRank to make it into our main index (which is more extensive and updated with greater frequency)”, - says Google’s Adam Lasnik. - “Getting more *quality* backlinks is generally a good way to get more of your pages in the main index”.

1) Penalty?

When your site has pages in our supplemental index, it does *not* indicate that your site has been penalized. In particular, we do not move a site’s pages from our main to our supplemental index in response to any violations of our Webmaster Guidelines.

2) Freshness?

You can expect to see a fresher supplemental index in the coming quarters. By the definition of “supplemental,” however, I don’t forsee it becoming as comprehensive or frequently updated as our main index.

3) Cure?

Get more quality backlinks. This is a key way that our algorithms will view your pages as more valuable to retain in our main index.

Google’s logic is really strange. If you want to get some pages out of supplemental index, you must put quality thematic backlinks to every page of your site!

Anyway, your site must be helpful for users to get good ranking from Google, Adam says.
