В кои-то веки решил поизучать логи. И вижу там регулярные переходы на титульную страницу сайта с адреса http://checks.panopta.com Полез смотреть, что это. А там написано вот что:

If you’ve ended up on this page, you have probably found the HTTP user agent string of Panopta Monitoring (http://checks.panopta.com) in your logs and are wondering why you’re seeing requests to your server. There are a number of possible reasons for this:

- The monitoring could have been setup by someone else in your organization

- A competitor might be looking for comparison data on their online presence

- It could be part of our general benchmarking efforts

Regardless, we respect the wishes of site owners and make it easy to remove your site from of our system – just send an email to _optout@panopta.com to request this. To verify site ownership and to avoid disruptions for our customers’ service, the request needs to be sent from either an address at the same domain name or one of the contacts listed in the WHOIS records for the domain in question.

Получается, что они почему-то мониторят мой сайт. Причем делают это достаточно часто (с утра уже куча запросов, я посчитал ~ 30-40 штук с определенным интервалом). При этом запрашивают они не RSS, как делают известные всем боты Яндекса и Гугла (тоже регулярно), а титульную страницу сайта.

Сам я, понятное дело, на это не подписывался. Получается, либо это конкуренты что-то на нем остлеживают, либо они по собственной инициативе это зачем-то делают.

Там есть e-mail, чтобы якобы вычеркнуть свой сайт из их списка. Но что-то писать им особого желания не испытываю.

Что это такое? Зачем кому-то это нужно? И что делать предлагаете в этой ситуации?
